
American Staffordshire Terrier dogs descend from the same line as American Pit Bull Terrier. Both dogs became popular for individuals who enjoyed the practice of dog fighting, although it was declared illegal. Americans Staffordshire Terrier was recognized by the AKC in 1936. Some people would use the name "Pit Bull" for this breed, but others use it to refer to other similar dog breeds such as American Pit Bull Terrier and Staffordshire Bull Terrier.

American Staffordshire Terriers have high energy level and they will need plenty of exercise on a daily basis. Long walks and vigorous running games are perfect examples. Grooming is very easy, just a view quick strokes of the brush on a weekly basis is all that is necessary. A healthy American Staffordshire Terrier dog has an average lifespan of 12 to 14 years.
