Three words can easily sum up the personality and temperament of the Bull Terrier: assertive, comical, and exuberant. These dogs have extremely high energy levels and are considered to be a bit on the mischievous side. Their physical strength is matched by their intelligence, and both body and mind need to be kept active.

They can be fun and playful. They are also very affectionate that love human company. Bull Terriers are good with children, and usually have a high pain threshold, which reduces the risk of injury from a defensive bite. Younger dogs, however, may regard children as playmates and because of their strength could cause injury. Bull Terriers make excellent guard dogs while their owners are away, and they are protective of children in their charge.

Bull Terrier dog can be a bit stubborn sometimes and prefers to see things his own way which can lead to problems with training. However, with patient and the right attitude, these can be avoided. Regardless of its tough-guy image, Bull Terriers are sweet natured and devoted to its family.

Bull Terrier dogs must be kept active and entertained. Physical and mental stimulation is required every day through vigorous walks on the leash and fun games to play. This dog has moderate tolerance to cold and heat which makes it suitable for staying outdoors during the daytime hours.

This breed does best with experienced, active family in the city, suburban or rural setting. Grooming is minimal due to its short coat. A weekly brushing to remove dead hair is all that is needed. The average lifespan of a healthy Bull Terrier dog is between 12 and 15 years
