Bulldog dogs are originally used to hold bulls for butchers, and later for bull baiting sport. This bloody sport was outlawed in 1835, and the breed is used mainly as companion. The appearance of bulldogs is compact, short, and known for their short muzzles and saggy skin on their faces, giving their apparent "frown" trademark. They are notorious for snoring, many have wet-mouths and drool extensively.

Bulldogs generally have low energy levels, they rarely bark without cause, therefore they make great apartment pets as well as household pets.
