Q&AQ: When did you start breeding, or how long have you been breeding?
A: Mellow Yellow Labradors has been breeding AKC registered purebred dogs since 1994 and so we have 15+ years breeding experience behind us with pleanty of good and verifiable references available upon request.

Q: What are the special traits of Labrador Retriever?
A: The name says it all, we raise Mellow Yellow Labradors with nice and laid back smooth and easy going style that most English type Labradors are so well known for making them the most popluar breed to be registered annuall with the AKC and our English Mellow Yellow Labradors are true heavyweights with all our Labradors weighing in the 90-100 lbs range here including our females!

Q: Where are your puppies raised?
A: Our puppies are reared in the house until about 4 weeks of age when they are moved to our nice outside facility that is set up with a wonderful indoor whelping pen with access to a nice outside area or run. We handle or work all of our Labradors puppy or adult daily and all of our adults retrieve to hand and we also have 5 children that range in age from 6-14 years old that also help handle the puppies daily giving them great socialization with children of all age groups before our puppies go to their new homes at 7-8 weeks of age.

Q: Tell us about your breeding goals.
A: We strive to produce a well rounded Labrador and breed for three primary things in the following order of priority. We first and foremost breed for temperaments that will stand up to our namesake which is nice Mellow Yellow Labradors so all our dogs have that nice kick back easy going style, yet still possess nice high prey drive or a born in instinct to retrieve and all our dogs are kid bomb proof making them the perfect family pets. Second we breed for conformation and we strive for gorgeous good looking well balanced English for the most part type Labradors that come across as "IMPRESSIVE" because our Labradors are the bigger taller heavy heavy Labs so they have longer legs than your average English type Labrador giving a better set of balance to our dogs with the longer legs that can cover ground and go the distance in the field or go to the park, river, or the lake and hit that cold water with some speed making them much more fun and a much nice look all the way around than the shorter more traditional English type Labrador and we think our dogs look drop dead gorgeous with the bigger stance and longer legs don't you? Third and finally we breed for color and we offer puppies for sale primarily in all shades of yellow ranging from ice white to light fox red even occasionally, but we also produce other colors becides yellow here too so occasionally you will find we might have some stunning shinny black puppies available too as well and we plan to introduce all colors beginning in 2011 once some of our younger up and comming females have grown up enough to be of breeding age to give us the whole color spectrum so check back often to see what we have comming up in 2011, it will be some year for knock out drop dead color introductions for us for rolling out our new Labrador colors we should have here for certain come 2011!

Q: What other dog breeds have you bred?
A: We started breeding AKC purebred Dobermans in 1994 up until 2002 when we discovered Labradors and we also own one total bratty naughty by neture AKC purebred rare tan and white beagle named Lilly of which I always say the hound will be the death of me for sure! Agh Lilly.

Q: Have the parents of your puppies both been tested free of genetic defects?
A: We pride ourselves on our healthy healthy lines. We also do not remove dew claws here as in Labradors it has now been found that their dew claws are too intergrated into their foot to be removed without the risk of altering their natural foot patterns and can promote the incidence of hip dysplasia in the Labrador breed. We also feed premium dog food of the fish and potato variety and/or we also feed a pork based variety of dog food as they are rich and full of fish oils and or pork fat for the omega's 3, 6, and 9 as well as offers a natural source of glucosamine condrition for building and keeping stong hip joints that will last a lifetime.

Q: What are the health issues that might appear in Labrador Retriever?
A: Look for lines that are free or clear for multi generations from hip and elbow dysplasia, heart conditions like cardiomyopathphy, and eye disease.

Q: What are the best match owners for Labrador Retriever?
A: Anyone who is looking for mans best friend who has the time to keep thier dogs socially intergrated into their daily routine as Labradors are super social dogs that need at least some daily interaction in order to stay content and our puppies generally are super laid back yet bubbly fun babies that dont require a lot of exercise but do want and need lots of lovins.

Q: Tell us about success stories your dogs had in the show ring.
A: I do not show conformation however I do breed for what I think my ideal conformation on a purebred Labradors look best to me or is my ideal which is the gorgeous teddybear blocky heads on a big heavy boned frame that is nice and impressive to anyone's eye and although we do not show ourselves any one of our dogs can easily be taken into the conformation ring and hold their own, hoever it is likely that our puppies will go oversize just due to the fact that we prefer the bigger and taller Labrador than the standards call for. But our Labradors hands down are some sight to see and are more than impressive enough in the looks department to stand toe to toe with any championed lined shorter English Labrador, just face it folks our Mellow Yellow Labradors are very well bred Labradors that are very nice representation of the breed and are simply just drop dead gorgeous.

Q: Any tips or advice for a new owner?
A: Choose your next new puppy wisely and a breed that suits your lifestyle well as you are making a promise of a lifetime investment to us to keep your new Mellow Yellow Labrador for the next 15 years in good health, that you will play with your new puppy as much daily as you can, and if you ever find yourselves in a position that you can no longer keep your new Mellow Yellow Labrador that you contact us first as a right of first refusal and we will gladly take back any puppy we have sold for any reason at any time and no puppy leaves here without a whole lot of time invested into them so please contact us if you ever find you are no longer able to keep your Labrador you got from us but remember you are going to be investing a LIFETIME in your new puppy so please think things through carefully before you decide on contacting us, and we certainly reserve the right to refuse to sell any of our puppies to just anyone so try to give us some background information on why you think you have a great home to offer one of our treasured and cherished Labrador babies as we check references too!
