Soon it became popular among Japanese nobility, and it was developed to produce different colors and sizes. Japanese Chin is a small, square dog with a large, round head; small, dropped ears; and large black eyes. It has tail that is carried over the back. Japanese Chin is very intelligent and easy to housetrain. It is also loyal, mild-mannered, and very loving. This breed is sometimes used as therapy dogs because of this trait. Some say that Chin displays some cat-like habits such as using its paws to wash the face and preference to rest on sofas and chairs. Due to its low exercise requirements, the Chin makes a perfect condominium or apartment pet. But it also does well living in the suburbs or country. Taking Care of Your Japanese ChinJapanese Chin needs brushing or combing once every day or two to maintain its appearance. Care needs to be given around the area under the ears, legs and to the skirt. The face should be wiped with a damp cloth and the folds cleaned with a cotton swab. Occasionally, a Japanese Chin might "blow" its coat once a year. Owners also need to pay attention to their diets, many Japanese Chin dogs are sensitive or allergic to corn. Try to feed them with high quality dog food that contains no corn to avoid allergy or other skin problems.
