Siberian Huskies are smart, independent and active dogs. Originally they were bred as sled dogs in very cold climate Siberian Arctic. Nowadays, they live as family dogs, but they still need to channel their high energy. They need to live with active owners in suburban or rural settings, where they can have daily exercise and activities.

Huskies are not recommended for first time dog owners. They are not easy to train because of their independent and strong will characters. They need experienced owners who are persistent and patient. They also have strong running instincts, and may run for very long distances, therefore they should always be kept on a leash or in a fenced yard. They may also try to escape.

Siberian Huskies consume less food than other dogs of similar size and activity level.Due to their origins, Huskies do require some amount of fish oil in their diet.
